Finland's transmission system operator Fingrid Oyj and Caverion have signed an agreement worth approximately SEK 214 million (EUR 20 million) for a new transmission line project in Western Finland. Caverion will build 400/110 kV power line with a total length of 83 kilometers and 237 steel columns. The agreement is an addition to the previously announced Kukonkylä-Ullava transmission line project.
"This transmission line contract with Caverion is part of a wider Lakeuslinja project, which includes a total of 400 km of the new 400 kV transmission line and several substations. Caverion has demonstrated its capability in several previous projects, which is why we are confidently expecting success in this project as well”, says Tommi Olsson, Head of Power Line Projects, Fingrid.
"We are very pleased with our strong cooperation with Fingrid. During the last ten years, Caverion has implemented almost 50 power line projects of different sizes in Finland”, says Kari Aalto, Industrial Projects and Infrastructure Business Director, Caverion Finland.
This new power line project strengthens the transmission capacity of Fingrid's transmission grid and enables efficient electricity transmission from Sweden and Northern Finland to Southern Finland. The project supports renewable energy infrastructure, promotes the achievement of Finland's climate goals and maintains sufficient electricity self-sufficiency in Finland.
The project will start in summer 2026 and the transmission line connection is expected to be completed in 2028.
